First Tee Program architect visits Sawgrass

Jose “Pepe” Pérez and his son Daniel watched from the stands next to the tenth hole. “That ball came real close. It must have been from Vijay,” said the father who basked in the intermittent sunlight. The two watched The Players practice rounds after presenting plans for the First Tee program at the Sawgrass Clubhouse Wednesday. Jose Pérez, of PQH Architects, showcased Jacksonville’s newest philanthropy, a program aimed at improving the community.
The program aids underprivileged children by providing them with after-school instruction in golf. The goal is to plant a seed in a Northwest Jacksonville neighborhood that will hopefully branch out and lead to better opportunities for inner city kids.
Pérez’s firm donated all design services towards the new golf learning center. The presentation was a fundraiser for the freshman program. The group presented the project at a luncheon inside the TPC clubhouse. Pérez and his partners believe the afternoon program will help reduce crime and instill good habits in local children.
